Denis is a Senior Consultant with South Pole working on topics at the intersection of finance, cities and climate change. He is managing the EU funded Low Carbon City Lab where he is actively engaged in the program management of the flagship assisting in the strategy development of the program until 2020. Within a project of the LoCaL flagship, he is the project lead for an innovative MRV solution based on mobile phone signals for the transport sector on city level developed in consortium with Telefonica Germany and Teralytics. He is the co-author of a study on climate-friendly investments and performance for the Swiss financial center and lead author of a study on the relation of water risks and the financial market commissioned by the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and is the project lead for a study commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) on the integration of sustainable urban development into their international funding programmes. Furthermore, he was stationed in Bangkok, Thailand for eight months. There, he was actively engaged in preparing a feasibility study on a GCF backed energy efficiency portfolio loan guarantee for ESCOs and SMEs in Thailand and mapping the renewable energy policy landscape in South East Asia as preparation for the setup of a renewable energy impact investment facility.
Prior to joining South Pole, Denis was engaged by the Swiss Climate Foundation where he was responsible for the controlling, reporting and due diligence of energy efficiency and innovation projects in Switzerland. He holds an MSc in Atmospheric and Climate Sciences from ETH Zurich, where he specialised in atmospheric dynamics.
