Urs Dieterich is the Managing Director of the Landscape Resilience Fund at South Pole. He aims to mainstream investment into sustainable land use strategies building on his background working in finance, carbon markets, forestry, development, and public policy. Given the vast potential in leveraging private capital for conservation and adaptation he is eager to identify and develop innovative financing solutions that allow private investors to yield risk adjusted returns while achieving measurable environmental outcomes. Prior to joining South Pole, Urs worked as asset manager for renewable energy investments at Aquila Capital, an alternative investment firm focusing on long-term investments in real assets. His further experience includes advising on corporate carbon pricing and zero-deforestation initiatives, establishing the community-based reforestation organization Kijani, and serving as Focal Point to the Major Group Children and Youth at the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF). Urs has worked in Indonesia, Colombia, Kenya, Armenia, the United States, Germany, and Switzerland.
He holds a Masters of Environmental Management (MEM) from Yale University and a B.Sc. in Forestry Science and Resource Management from Technical University Munich.
