ISA, the largest energy transmission company in Latin America, was looking to protect natural habitats in its areas of operation, which cover Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile and Central America. Therefore, the client required to create its own fund, consisting of carbon projects that supported biodiversity protection and local communities welfare through climate finance.
The operations of the company span to countries with different environmental policies and natural conditions. Designing a climate smart solution to cover the areas where its grids are located and generating biodiversity, social and economic benefits was a challenge that required the in-depth assessment of its technical partners South Pole and Panthera.
South Pole designed and co-implements jointly with Panthera the Jaguar Connection Fund, a group of forestry projects developed in areas where ISA's electricity grids are located. South Pole is the carbon project and asset developer of the fund, which aims at funding 20 projects that protects the Jaguar Corridors.
