The Swiss government created a cleantech fund (technologyfund.ch) to promote innovative environmental technologies. Through this fund, it provides loan guarantees to companies that are developing new products and services for reducing greenhouse emissions, using renewable energies and protecting natural resources.
The Challenge
The Swiss Government guaranteed CHF 350 million through the facility, with the goal to increase the budget to CHF 500 million. Operating a facility with such a broad reach was challenging, as selecting and supervising the 80+ cleantech companies funded since 2014 requires understanding of every technology and its alignment with the Fund's goals.
The Solution
South Pole, along with Emerald Technology Ventures, provides the Fund management on behalf of the Swiss Federal Government, including the due diligence and supervision of investees during the lifetime of the loan, as well as the operation of all relevant systems.
