South Pole, a leading climate solutions provider, just announced its certification as a registered B Corporation in Australia. B Corporations (or B Corps) are a growing group of companies who are reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.
The certification by B Lab endorses South Pole as a company that meets rigorous social and environmental standards, and a commitment to goals beyond shareholder profit.
Renat Heuberger, CEO, South Pole said, "Every day, we're helping public and private sector actors along their climate journey, paving the way to a more sustainable, low-carbon future. Getting B Corp certification is further proof that South Pole not only talks the talk but walks the walk, by working in line with the highest social and environmental standards ourselves as well as with our clients."
“Globally and especially within the ranks of developed economies, Australia is among the countries most vulnerable to climate change. This has again become evident in the recent bushfires," said Tom Schroder, Head of Climate Action at South Pole.
“South Pole offers our clients in Australia concrete steps towards decarbonising their business. Understanding their environmental impacts gives them a better understanding of how to lower their emissions and work towards carbon neutrality. These actions are urgently needed to accelerate the region's low-carbon transition," he added.
The B Corp Certification covers a company's entire business, in particular five key impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous – a company has to score over 80 out of 100 and provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices, including energy supply, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. B Corp companies also legally embed their commitments to purpose beyond profit in company articles.
South Pole is now part of a community of over 2600+ businesses globally who have been certified as B Corps. The B Corp Community includes businesses from a cross-section of industries and sizes, such asPatagonia, Alpro, Triodos Bank, Alessi, Ecoalf and Innocent. B Corp Certification signals a shift towards greater accountability and transparency.
Nathan Gilbert, Executive Director of B Lab Europe, says "We are delighted to welcome South Pole to the B Corp Community. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit".
