The session featured a Q&A with AS Watson, the world's largest international health and beauty retailer with over 16,000 stores in 27 markets (with brands like Watsons, The Perfume Shop, and Superdrug under its umbrella), discussing how it tracks and measures emissions across its vast global network.
Ajit leads the APAC Environmental Impact Assessment practice at South Pole. He has overseen the end-to-end delivery of GHG inventories, product carbon footprints and decarbonisation roadmaps for conglomerates, financial institutions and large agribusiness, retail and industrial supply chains across Asia-Pacific and Europe. Ajit also leverages his experience to help corporates build strategies to meet ambitious net zero commitments. Ajit holds a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Hons) from Monash University and a Master of Climate Change from the Australian National University.
Wan Yee has over nine years of research and consultancy experience, serving clients in various sectors in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, Europe and the Americas in their corporate decarbonsation journey. She specializes in GHG accounting and decarbonisation within agricultural value chains, including land use change accounting. She completed her PhD in environmental science on the topic of variability in the GHG footprints of crops under the European Commission's Marie Curie industrial scholarship, led by Unilever and Radboud University. She obtained a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Switzerland and a double Bachelors in Environmental Engineering and Economics from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, in which she was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal as the top of the graduating class.
With over 20 years' experience in Retail, Sébastien is responsible for implementing and overseeing compliance programmes for manufacturers and products sold across the 28 health and beauty markets of AS Watson Group.
Sébastien heads dedicated non-food Quality Assurance teams in 10 markets across Asia and Europe, responsible for ensuring that suppliers have good manufacturing and ethical practices in place, and to enforce product safety and quality controls at various steps, from new product development, manufacturing, distribution, to post-market surveillance.
Additionally, as an active member of the Group's Global Sustainability Committee since 2010, Sebastien became Group CSR Director in 2014, and Chief Sustainability Officer in 2021. Besides monitoring the Group's performance against our 2030 sustainability targets, and reporting on ESG performance to our shareholders, CK Hutchison and Temasek, he initiated the launch of several responsible sourcing and environmental initiatives within the Group and with external manufacturers, and currently oversees on-going partnership programs with organisations such as amfori, the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil, The New Plastic Economy, the Forest Stewardship Council , The Mekong Club and Drink Without Waste. The latest achievement was the validation from the Science-Based Target initiative (SBTi) for AS Watson Group's latest greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets (scopes 1, 2 and 3).
