Mailboxes and trash cans report when they need to be emptied. Electricity grids automatically control when and where they feed and discharge electricity. Parking spaces inform us when they are free: The city of the future is full of sensors and intelligent technology.
But even for them, it's their residents, the commercial enterprises and the service providers in a wide variety of industries that make them the city in the first place. How does the smart city influence our lives, how do we move in it, and above all: Which technology and which energy services do we need in the city of tomorrow and who makes them available to us? What responsibility does a municipal utility have? These are the questions addressed by the 2nd Swiss Congress of Public Utilities.
