A GE Renewable Energy business, LM Wind Power has announced that is 100% carbon neutral as of July 2018, making it the first company in the wind industry to do so.
LM Wind Power made its original pledge to go climate neutral by 2018 in December 2016 with the launch of its climate neutral initiative, the CleanLM Program.
The CleanLM Program comprises three components: reducing emissions through an aggressive energy efficiency programme, using 100% renewable energy from 2017, and offsetting remaining, unavoidable emissions by supporting high quality emission reduction and renewable energy projects with South Pole, that also contribute to sustainable development.
The company has been engaged in sustainability initiatives since 2010 as part of a commitment to live up to their company vision of “...capturing the wind to power a cleaner world".
“CleanLM proved that greener business is leaner business, contributing to profitability and making the world a better place! We achieved carbon neutrality together – and with more than 10,000 passionate advocates to tell that story, we now have a chance to inspire real change in our industry and beyond," says Christopher Springham, Vice President Global Communications and Sustainability, LM Wind Power.
“Our team has been proud to act as LM Wind Power's sustainability and efficiency advisor, provider of Renewable Energy Certificates and Carbon Credits to support their journey to carbon neutrality in 2018," says Charles Henderson, Head of Corporate Climate Risks and Opportunities, South Pole. “LM Wind Power is setting a precedent in the industry with their ambitious CleanLM Program, engaging all global business units and staff with the agenda, driven by the vision and leadership of top management. The program will continue to drive efficiencies, on-site renewable production and further supply chain sustainability."
LM Wind Power is a world leading designer and manufacturer of blades for wind turbines, with a global manufacturing footprint of 15 factories on four continents. Approximately one in five wind turbines have LM Wind Power Blades.
