Taronga Conservation Society Australia's first carbon off-set project will fund extensive forest regeneration in New South Wales, Australia. The project offsets the carbon emissions from the paper manufacture of the joint Taronga and Woolworths' Super Animals Wildlife Collectibles album and card series by supporting the Urisino Ecosystem Regeneration Project near Wanaaring, saving 4761 tonnes of carbon.
“This off-set program is the next important step in our commitment to the environment in support of wildlife. It shows what can be achieved when organisations like Woolworths and Taronga work together for with conservation and the environment" the Zoo's Director, Cameron Kerr, has stated.
Urisino forest regeneration project is located across three pastoral properties near Wanaaring, Western NSW. The properties cover an area of over 800 square kilometres (80,245 hectares), which is an area almost one third the size of the Blue Mountains National Park, approximately one eighth the size of Kosciuszko National Park, and larger than Singapore. The project has been developed together with Climate Friendly, part of south pole group.
“Operating globally, south pole group has seen a number of forest regeneration projects around the world. These projects offer large abatement volumes across enormous land areas and will be an important part in Australia's effort to meet its national emissions reductions target," says Christian Dannecker, south pole group's Director of Forestry.
