This wind energy project in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh tackles climate change by providing a renewable source of electricity for India’s fossil-fuel dominated Southern Grid. The project is helping speed up the transition towards a low-carbon energy system by increasing the capacity of renewable power generation in the region, so increasing demands will be met with clean energy.
As well as reducing emissions, this project also supports the wellbeing of communities through a range of side activities and projects. This includes employment opportunities for locals, training for health volunteers working in deprived areas and a community store to distribute donated items to disadvantaged community members. Two community camps, run by Mytrah Energy and UNICEF, empower young women by educating them on their rights, creative abilities and skills in healthcare, while a safe water project provides clean water, improved sanitation facilities and education about sanitation.
