Zurich/Stockholm, February 15, 2022: The Swedish purpose-driven climate action enabler GoClimate announced it is joining South Pole, the international leader in climate and environmental services, solutions, and project development.
By joining forces, GoClimate and South Pole will enable more companies and individuals to easily take action to reduce their carbon footprint, while also making it easier to finance climate mitigation projects by compensating for emissions. This will be led by combining and leveraging the digital solutions pioneered by GoClimate and South Pole to reach more people than ever before.
“With governments and world leaders not implementing the systemic changes that are urgently needed, we believe that individuals as well as companies must act to have a chance of slowing down the climate catastrophe and saving millions of lives," said Cecilia Lindén, co-founder of GoClimate. “We want to facilitate the journey towards a climate-friendly lifestyle and show that a life where we care for our planet - and each other - can be a luxurious one. Joining forces with South Pole means that we can accelerate this journey together and have much greater impact on slowing down climate change."
GoClimate offers a subscription service that allows users to balance out the emissions that stem from their chosen lifestyle, while also supporting users to become more climate-conscious in their lifestyles. The company also supports companies to reach their climate commitments, in part through a well-developed system that makes climate action accessible for even the smallest SMEs.
Combining forces with South Pole allows GoClimate to achieve a scale previously not possible for the company. As demand for carbon credits continues to increase rapidly, GoClimate now has access to South Pole's expertise and resources in developing carbon projects which generate robust, verifiable credits. In 2021 South Pole signed agreements to develop over sixty new carbon projects around the globe, with plans for again as many projects or more in 2022.
The addition of GoClimate to the South Pole group is aligned with South Pole's rapid expansion and strategy of combining global expertise and reach with relevant local know-how. It follows on the recent announcement of South Pole's acquisition of Carbonsink to expand their Italian offerings, as well as the previous acquisition of CO2logic in Belgium. It also gives South Pole access to the digital solutions developed by GoClimate for serving clients that want to take responsibility for their emissions but who may not have the capacity to determine their carbon footprint or the best interventions on a case by case basis.
“GoClimate is at the cutting edge of developing simple and intuitive solutions for clients who wish to take credible climate action through the platforms they've built. Both South Pole and GoClimate will continue to focus on customer segments where we have most impact, now with the added benefit of complementing each other with things like sourcing credits in a highly competitive environment, and providing automated, digital solutions to more and more customers," said Renat Heuberger, co-founder and CEO at South Pole.
South Pole will rely on GoClimate to continue to serve the customer segments it has in the past, while also building on the GoClimate digital solutions to automate and enhance the climate solutions it offers to its customers. GoClimate will continue operating autonomously with no changes to management, operations, or company name, and will continue working closely with its valued subscribers.
"Apart from the practical advantages, I think the best part about this partnership is that South Pole is a company which is highly value-based and pursuing climate impact for the right reasons. This aligns very well with what we do at GoClimate, and it's the right fit for us and for our subscribers," said Lindén.
South Pole, a social enterprise recognised by the World Economic Forum's Schwab Foundation, is today the world's leading climate solutions provider and carbon project developer. Since its creation in 2006, it has developed nearly 1,000 projects in over 50 countries to reduce over one gigaton of CO2 emissions, and to provide social benefits to less privileged communities who are particularly vulnerable to climate change. Projects range from sustainable agriculture, forest conservation, and waste management, to energy efficiency and decentralized renewable energy. South Pole also advises thousands of leading companies on their sustainability journeys, including Nestlé, L'Oréal, Ernst and Young, and Tetra Pak, to achieve net-zero emissions.
With its global Climate Solutions platform, South Pole develops and implements comprehensive strategies that turn climate action into long-term business opportunities for companies, governments and organizations around the world.
South Pole is committed to becoming a B Corp globally across all of its local entities, building on its existing B Corp certification in Australia and the U.S.

GoClimate is a social enterprise founded in 2017, with the purpose of slowing down climate change by focusing on reducing carbon dioxide emissions. GoClimate finances climate projects and helps members reduce their own impact on the climate.
GoClimate offers a subscription service that allows individuals to balance out the emissions that their lifestyle entails, while simultaneously supporting a more climate-conscious life in general. It also supports companies in their climate work in various ways such as carbon footprint calculations, one-time offsets, inspirational lectures, workshops and technical integrations. GoClimate is driven by the belief that if we all work together, we can both reduce emissions at an individual level and at the same time put pressure on governments to improve legislation. GoClimate always has climate justice in mind and works with 100% transparency.
