Bringing the project and jurisdictional scales together will be critical post-Paris to ensure no double counting in Nationally Determined Contributions, while keeping avenues open for attracting finance and driving mitigation ambition.
We are pleased to announce the release of a new guidance document, Options for Nesting REDD+ Projects, published by Winrock International, with consultative guidance from VCS and Fundación Natura Colombia, and contributions from the South Pole Group. This document builds on previous work on Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ to provide a suite of options for effectively integrating projects into jurisdictional REDD+ programs. Documents are available in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese:
Options for Nesting REDD+ Projects (English) / Español / Français / Português
This guidance aids jurisdictions and projects in resolving key issues related to implementing jurisdictional REDD+ programs. The document covers a number of potential technical solutions to each key issue: those that may be most attractive to jurisdictions, those that project proponents may prefer, and those most likely to be mutually beneficial, balancing government needs with the goal of attracting private finance for REDD+. In the future, VCS hopes to expand on this guidance to include solutions for institutional issues and recommendations on benefit sharing between nested local and jurisdictional sales, in order to reward and incentivise action.
Webinars covering this guidance will be held on August 3rd at 10 am ET in English and 12 pm ET in Spanish.
