Berlin, September 9, 2020: South Pole, a leading climate solutions company and project developer, today announced it is strengthening its presence in Europe with a new office in Berlin, to better serve the German market. Every day, all around the world, South Pole demonstrates the social and environmental value of smart, sustainable solutions developed for its clients – governments, organizations and world-renowned brands like Tetra Pak, Nestlé, Porsche, and L'Oréal – by reducing climate risk, enhancing brand value, and preparing clients to thrive in a carbon constrained economy.
Climate neutrality and environmental action have become increasingly important topics for German companies and have led to numerous ambitious announcements over the past months. Already today, South Pole is working with many German climate action pioneers on their sustainability strategies, renewable energy solutions and climate neutrality projects. With the opening of a new office in Berlin, South Pole aims to support many more German companies to stand out in their respective industries by taking climate action.
Jeffrey Oatham, Director of CSR & Sustainability at Delivery Hero on South Pole's office opening: "At Delivery Hero, we care for the environment and we want to deliver a more sustainable future. That's why we are setting an ambitious goal to be carbon neutral globally by the end of 2021. South Pole is a great partner to help us achieve that goal and be a part of the solution to climate change and we are delighted to now have them close by here in Berlin."
South Pole expects business to grow substantially in Germany, which aims to be greenhouse gas neutral by 2050 and will cut emissions by at least 55 percent by 2030 (using 1990 as a baseline). Last year, it passed its first national climate law, which specifies the annual reduction targets for various sectors including industry and transport.
'With an office in Berlin, we are thrilled to be able to meet our clients closer to their business activities. In light of Germany's commitment to carbon neutrality, we look forward to working with new clients who are committed to an ambitious climate agenda, as well as expanding our work with current German clients, like Delivery Hero, Porsche and Deutsche Bank. We see an uptick in companies taking climate action and setting carbon neutrality targets, despite or perhaps because of COVID-19, and want to help them achieve their climate goals,' said Renat Heuberger, CEO of South Pole.
