For the eighth year in a row, South Pole has won the Best Project Developer award in the Renewable Energy category by Environmental Finance in the prestigious Voluntary Carbon Market Rankings.
It is an honour for South Pole to be recognized with this award. It reaffirms that within the renewable energy space, every single project that we've developed over the last sixteen years contributes to a global transformation that is reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. With what is going on in the world today, this is not only a nice to have, but an imperative.
Aude Perrine, Director of Sourcing for Renewables Sustainable Technologies at South Pole.
At a time when half of the global energy workforce is employed in clean energy technologies, renewable energy projects are gaining more prominence than ever. For companies that are in the midst of their own energy transformations, renewable energy projects provide opportunities to reduce scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. One simple way is to get renewable energy certificates that reduce their carbon footprint, demonstrate their climate leadership, use renewable electricity without installing costly facilities, and encourage renewable energy markets.
For over 16 years, South Pole has been engaged in carbon markets and is today a leading developer of carbon offset projects globally. This includes a portfolio of more than 350 renewable energy projects that avoid greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon credits generated by South Pole's projects are developed according to internationally recognised carbon standards, assuring that they are high-quality, truly additional, and create the positive environmental and social impacts they are meant to achieve.
An example of a South Pole solar project in Vietnam“ Dai Hai Power Development and Investment Joint Stock Company has cooperated with South Pole since 2019. South Pole supported us in developing and registering two solar power projects in Central Vietnam under the Verified Carbon Standard. These projects have successfully contributed to creating jobs and green energy, as well as to fighting climate change. To date, more than 100,000 carbon credits have been issued and traded on the voluntary carbon market from our projects. This is a meaningful additional source of income for us that reaffirms our company's sustainable development orientation" said Le Thi Thu Giang, Deputy General Director of Dai Hai Power Development and Investment Joint Stock Company. |
As a long-time leader in the renewable energy space, South Pole has facilitated at least 24,000,000 MWh of renewable energy to clients through its own projects and traded renewable energy credits. Through a recent partnership with Siemens Smart Infrastructure, South Pole will soon offer a full range of solutions and financing models for companies who wish to reduce energy-related emissions by helping them take the first steps towards a credible decarbonisation roadmap that includes renewable energy procurement for facilities.
“South Pole is committed to providing alternative solutions to the growing energy demand and supporting more renewable energy projects, especially in times of uncertainty like these" said Gabriel Orozco, Global Practice Lead for EAC at South Pole. “That we've won this award eight years running is a testament to our commitment and how we continue to push the envelope in this space."
