The Sustainable Impact Summit by the World Economic Forum brings together leaders from government, business, academia and civil society who will be present in New York during the United Nations General Assembly to create a multi-stakeholder platform for concerted climate action.
As with all events, The Forum recognises the impact of long-distance travel, which is why they have partnered with South Pole Group to compensate all CO2 emissions from Forum staff travel to the Impact Summit.
Delivering on the ambitions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris climate agreement will require accelerating public-private cooperation and deploying new technological solutions. The Impact Summit aims to increase the impact of existing multistakeholder initiatives and catalyse new partnerships, alliances and technologies to accelerate sustainable development.
The Forum will offset staff travel emissions with South Pole's high quality emissions reduction projects and by doing so, not only contribute to carbon emissions reductions, but also to a range of programs that improve livelihoods in communities and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Blandin Forest Conservation Project in USA conserves 175, 000 acres of forest, protecting life on land and promoting biodiversity. The Huóshui Grouped Hydro in China generates 807,765 Mwh of clean energy annually and creates 950 jobs in local communities. The Kariba REDD+ Forest Protection protects 785, 000 hectares of forest and improves the livelihoods of over 30, 000 people by providing better health measures and financial support to local health clinics.
