Carbon removal technologies are entering the climate arena. The latest IPCC report has underlined their role in addressing the threat of climate change. But how to grow the nascent technological removals industry at the required speed and to the expected gigatonne-scale? How to spur demand and finance? For governments and corporates, how to use these removals credibly? And how to use them smartly?
South Pole and Mitsubishi will begin our conversation by discussing their recently announced Next Generation Carbon Removal Purchase Facility - a project that aims to procure between US$300-800 million in certified carbon removal credits by 2030. We will also hear from 1PointFive, a subsidiary of Occidental's Low Carbon Ventures, the developer of one of the facility's key carbon removal projects as well as SwissRe, an inaugural buyer of credits generated by the facility.
