An estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic enters the oceans every year, and huge garbage patches swirl around our oceans, with the 'Great Pacific Garbage Patch' being the largest one. This particular garbage patch is the main trash gyre target of The Ocean Cleanup.
South Pole Group has supported the Ocean Cleanup Foundation in their ambition to clean up the ocean waters from plastic pollution by ensuring the carbon neutrality of their last aerial survey expedition. The non-profit organisation will launch the next phase of their mission on May 11 in Utrecht.
To ensure that the foundation continues their activities in a climate-friendly way, South Pole Group will compensate all emissions caused by this event through emission reduction projects worldwide.
