South Pole, a leading provider of global sustainability financing solutions and services, is proud to relaunch the company's label offering to adapt to the most current standards and in order to ensure that South Pole's clients continue to profit from "best in class" solutions when it comes to their sustainability commitments.
The much-awaited Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5ºC by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has exposed the true price of a "business as usual" approach. And the consequences of inaction will be catastrophic. It is against the backdrop of this global challenge that South Pole accelerates ambition and relaunches its label offering.
South Pole has provided certification for climate neutrality for companies, products and events for many years. In autumn 2018, the company's expert team of consultants has reviewed and updated the criteria in order to align with international standards and an evolving market. The enhanced South Pole labels are closely aligned with international standards such as PAS 2060 – the leading international standard for demonstrating carbon neutrality, developed by the British Standards Institution (BSi).
South Pole continues to offer Climate Neutrality labels for companies, products and events, as well as Renewable Electricity labels for companies and events - now in a brand new design. But the labels don't only get a new look. They become a vital part in a client's journey to enhanced ambition on climate action. They are a real solution to help slow down global warming, which is becoming increasingly important given the more frequent occurrence of extreme weather events. South Pole labels constitute a powerful tool for client engagement and for carrying this challenge into the general public.
Before extending a label, South Pole's sustainability experts ensure that the client's underlying principles of greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting follow recognised international standards such as the GHG Protocol or ISO 14064-1. In addition, and in reflection of South Pole's commitment to long-lasting impact, the South Pole labels include the principles of 'Conservativeness and Continuity'. In essence, South Pole uses only conservative estimates and will ensure that the clients aim towards continual improvements in GHG accounting and reduction potential.
"This is fantastic news for existing and new clients" says Charles Henderson, Corporate Climate Change Expert at South Pole. "Using our enhanced label offering underlines the timeliness and credibility of their sustainability strategies".
While the company embraces this new development, South Pole continues to recognise certifications extended before November 2018. The previous South Pole labels will still be valid for a transition phase of two years and existing clients will receive a personal consultation on how to qualify for the new labels.
